Going by the sonic 3 tweet, if its real then this basically confirms that not only is eggman in the movie, but also the space colony ark with the film being an adaption of sonic adventure 2.

The knuckles show has just had some storyboard leaks happen via a twitter leaking account, along with sonic the hedgehog 3 getting the apparent final battle. Storyboards for both sonic movie 3 and the upcoming knuckles tv show seemingly leaked online Paramount swiftly removed the original video, possibly validating.
